This tutorial will teach you a couple of techniques I use to create ghostly effect as those you have seen in The Suicide (second row, first image) or in Exodus of the Birds. In order to follow this tutorial you need to have basic knowledge of Photoshop (working with layers, using the tools, etc.). I am using Photoshop CS3 and a tablet, but you can achieve the same results using a mouse and some older versions of Photoshop as well.
Click on the image below to see the finished result that you’ll be creating:

You will learn:
- To turn a sunset scenery into a night sky
- To use the Outer Glow and Inner Glow layer effects to create realistic glowing effects
- To use the Motion Blur filter on multiple layers to create a ghostly vision of an object
- To blend the edges of objects into a new background
- To use Layer Masks instead of the eraser tool to hide parts of a layer
- To add simple and effective adjustments to enhance your image
To follow along, you will need these pictures from sxc.hu: sky, moon, and bird.

Finally the updated version of my website is live! You might not see many changes design-wise, but underneath it’s been completely rewritten, finally switching from tables to CSS.
So what’s new?
- the homepage illustration and text
- the menu has been expanded to include the blog and the page dedicated to my upcoming book
- which brings me to the most important addition of this version: the Book page, which for now just offers more information about the upcoming book, and later you will be able to order the book from there
- the current gallery has been updated with my newest work (Exodus of the Leaves)
- the FAQ information on the Prints page has also been updated.
- …and a couple of other minor updates in the Media page
What’s coming up?
- Temporary Peace, of course
- I’m preparing a series of tutorials and of articles for the blog - I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but haven’t had the time… I guess I’d better get to it
- I’m planning a new series (artwork), which I’m really excited about, but this one will take a while
P.S.: please feel free to report any bugs you might discover on the website!

Work less, play more - sounds good, doesn’t it? As a graphic designer, I always have a deadline in front of me and most of the times a limited amount of time for each project. The timelogger is ticking! Therefore, not only that I have to do a good job, but I have to do it fast (faster than the competition and, of course, better). The clients like it that way, and so does my boos. So, I have some tricks up my sleeve that probably most designers use, but for those who don’t - it’s never too late!
In an article written for Ardis Creative, I am sharing my best tips on how to speed up your Photoshop workflow. Click to read >>

Downloaded an image from the web and want to find its author, but can’t remember the website you took it from? The solution just got easy!
I’ve just discovered this great new tool that searches images on the web in the same manner as you search for words (or phrases) on Google. Practically, you upload an image, or fill in an image’s URL, or - with the plugin for Firefox and IE - right click on any image on the web, and the results will tell you what webpages that image has been found at.
